The Cocoa Abrabopa Pension Scheme (CAPS) started development in 2011 in collaboration with the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).
It was implemented by the end of 2012 and is the first private pension scheme for cocoa farmers in Africa. Because a new framework had to be designed, it took some time to roll out. CAPS offers farmers pensions, savings, and bereavement benefits to contribute to a more social and stable life for farmers. Assets under management as of August 2020 are valued at GHc1,800,000.00, with claimed benefits getting close to GHc300,000.00. A folder is available with more information about CAPS: “CAPS at a glance”.
